The first stage in the development of this state of the art teaching facility was the creation of an operating environment within the most modern theatre facilities at Maidstone Hospital.
Laparoscopic and endoscopic facilities were included, allowing for the complex laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures which are regularly carried out at Maidstone Hospital.
The Endo Alpha Theatre was officially opened on 1st May 2009 by Mr Mike Parker, the President of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland, and by Professor Michael Bailey, former president of the ALS. Mr Parker is internationally known for his great efforts to mould, improve and streamline the laparoscopic surgical teaching and training process. Locally, he has led the teaching and training Kent-wide, from his post as Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Dartford Hospital. Also in attendance were dignitaries and eminent national and international surgeons, including Professor Michael Bailey.
IMACS continues to benefit from the support of Mr Michael Woodford, OBE, President of Olympus Keymed. As a reference site for Olympus Keymed in Britain, IMACS has state of the art equipment from Olympus Keymed for the teaching and training of doctors visiting the centre.
